Meet Scott — The Story Behind Scott’s Treewurk

I’m Not Here to Sell You Tree Work You Don’t Need.

I’m here to help you make the best decisions for your trees, your property, and your wallet.

That philosophy is the foundation of Scott’s Treewurk. But how I got here is a story I never could have predicted.

How It All Began

When I moved to Georgia in 2012, I was looking for a new opportunity and a fresh start.

One day, while browsing Craigslist, I came across an advertisement looking for first responders. No experience necessary.

It caught my attention. I thought it sounded interesting, so I made a phone call and was invited in for an interview.

When I arrived and discovered it was a tree service company, I have to admit, I wasn’t particularly excited. Working in the tree industry had never crossed my mind.

But I decided to give it a chance.

After a few weeks, something changed.

I began to realize that this business was about much more than cutting down trees. It was about helping homeowners solve problems, protecting their property, and sometimes helping families through some very difficult situations.

I discovered that I genuinely enjoyed meeting people, listening to their concerns, and helping them find solutions.

What started as an unexpected opportunity was becoming something I truly believed in.

Hurricane Sandy — An Experience I’ll Never Forget

Not long after I joined the company, Hurricane Sandy devastated the Northeast.

Although I was still relatively new, I had been progressing quickly and was invited to join a storm-response team heading to New Jersey.

I spent three weeks working in communities approximately 40 minutes from where I grew up.

What I witnessed was unforgettable.

Trees had crashed through homes. Streets and yards were buried under fallen trees and debris. Families were overwhelmed, and many didn’t know where to begin.

I remember pulling into neighborhoods and seeing homeowners lining up just to speak with us, desperate for someone who could help.

The devastation was heartbreaking, but being able to help people during such a difficult time was incredibly rewarding.

That experience changed the way I looked at the tree business.

I saw firsthand how important it was to have someone show up, listen, offer solutions, and help people regain some sense of normalcy.

It wasn’t just about removing trees. It was about helping people.

Shortly after returning from New Jersey, I was promoted to manager, reaching that position faster than anyone in the company’s history at that time.

Why I Started Scott’s Treewurk

After a couple of years in the tree industry, I began to realize that while I genuinely enjoyed helping homeowners, I didn’t always agree with the way the business was being conducted.

There was a strong emphasis on getting the highest possible price for every job.

I understood that businesses need to make money, but I never believed that maximizing profits should come at the expense of treating customers fairly.

I wanted the freedom to make my own decisions, give homeowners honest advice, and recommend what I genuinely believed was best for them, without pressure to sell more expensive services.

I discussed the possibility of starting our own business with two fellow managers, and we all saw the potential. Eventually, I decided it was time to take that next step and create something of my own.

That’s how Scott’s Treewurk came to be.

From the beginning, I wanted to build a business around a simple philosophy:

Treat every customer’s property and hard-earned money with the same care and consideration I would give my own.

That meant being honest, even when honesty might cost me a sale.

If a tree could be saved with proper pruning instead of being removed, I wanted the freedom to recommend that. If a homeowner didn’t need certain work done, I wanted to be able to say so.

I wasn’t interested in becoming just another salesperson trying to close the biggest job possible.

I wanted to be someone homeowners could trust to give them straightforward answers, explain their options, and help them make the right decisions.

I started Scott’s Treewurk because I believed I could make a living doing things the right way, without compromising my principles.

And that’s the approach I’ve followed ever since.

I Think About Your Wallet, Not Mine

One thing I’ve always believed is that a homeowner deserves more than someone showing up, looking at a few trees, and handing over an estimate.

You deserve someone who listens.

When I visit your property, my first priority is understanding what you’re trying to accomplish.

Then we talk about your options.

For example, you might believe a tree needs to be removed because it’s blocking sunlight from your yard.

But after looking at the situation, I might suggest selective pruning instead.

You get the additional sunlight you’re looking for, preserve a healthy tree, and potentially save a considerable amount of money.

Sometimes a tree really does need to come down. Other times, there may be a less expensive solution that accomplishes the same goal.

And sometimes, the best recommendation I can make is to leave a tree alone.

My goal isn’t to sell you the most expensive job. It’s to help you make the best decision for your property and your budget.

I’m a Consultant First, Not an Order Taker

I don’t believe my job is simply to agree with everything a homeowner asks for.

If I think there’s a better, safer, or more economical way to accomplish your goals, I’m going to tell you.

And if I believe you’re about to spend money unnecessarily, I’ll tell you that, too.

When I come to your home, I’m there to listen, evaluate your concerns, explain your options, and help you make an informed decision.

I welcome questions. In fact, I encourage them.

I want you to understand what I’m recommending, why I’m recommending it, and what alternatives may be available.

I believe an informed homeowner makes better decisions.

Once we’ve determined the right approach, I coordinate with experienced tree service professionals to get the work completed.

Throughout the process, my priority is making sure your concerns are heard and that you feel comfortable with the decisions being made.

I don’t consider myself simply an estimator or a salesperson.

I consider myself an adviser whose responsibility is to look out for your best interests.

Building Relationships, Not Just a Customer List

One of the most rewarding parts of this business has been the relationships I’ve developed over the years.

I’ve always tried to treat the people I meet the same way I would treat a friend.

I listen. I answer questions. I offer suggestions. And I try to be as straightforward as possible, even when my recommendation might mean a smaller job or no job at all.

Over time, many of my customers have actually become friends.

That means a great deal to me.

Because I believe trust isn’t something you can buy with advertising or earn with a clever sales pitch.

It’s something you earn by consistently doing what you say you’re going to do and treating people fairly.

I’m proud of the reputation Scott’s Treewurk has built and the many five-star Google reviews we’ve received from homeowners who have trusted us with their properties.

Those reviews mean more to me than any advertisement because they reflect the experiences of real people I’ve had the opportunity to help.

My Philosophy Has Never Changed

I believe doing business the right way is actually pretty simple.

Be honest.

Be fair.

Listen more than you talk.

Respect people’s property and their hard-earned money.

Don’t recommend work they don’t need.

And always remember that the person standing in front of you is more important than the size of the job.

I’ve never believed that earning someone’s business should require high-pressure sales tactics or convincing them to spend more than necessary.

I’d much rather earn your trust, even if that means recommending a smaller job.

Because at the end of the day, my reputation and the relationships I’ve built are worth far more than any single sale.

Experience the Scott’s Treewurk Difference

If you’re looking for someone who will simply show up and give you a price, there are plenty of companies that can do that. But if you’re looking for someone who will take the time to listen, answer your questions, explain your options, and help you make an informed decision, I’d welcome the opportunity to meet you. I can’t promise I’ll always give you the lowest estimate. What I can promise is that I’ll give you my honest opinion, recommend what I believe is right for your situation, and treat your money with the same respect I treat my own. That’s how I’ve always believed business should be done. And that’s what Scott’s Treewurk is all about. I look forward to meeting you. — Scott Founder, Scott’s Treewurk
